Packing Doesn't Have to Mean Chaos

Moving day can be stressful, but seasoned movers know that 90% of a smooth move comes down to smart packing strategy. After handling thousands of residential and commercial moves across the Greater Toronto Area, our crew has seen what works — and what breaks.

1. Pack by Room and Priority Level

Instead of mixing items from multiple rooms into one box, label every box with its destination room and a priority level (e.g., "Kitchen - Open First"). This allows the movers to place boxes directly where they belong, cutting unpacking time in half.

2. The "First-Night Box" is Non-Negotiable

Pack a dedicated clear bin or brightly colored box with chargers, essential toiletries, medications, change of clothes, coffee supplies, and basic tools. Keep this in your personal vehicle so it never gets buried under stacks of heavy boxes in the truck.

3. Use Heavy Duty Wardrobe Boxes

Take clothes directly from your closet on their hangers and place them straight into wardrobe boxes. It preserves your garments, prevents wrinkles, and takes less than 30 seconds per closet section.

"A 10-minute investment in proper bubble wrapping and labeling saves hours of frustration and protects items that can't be replaced."

4. Wrap Fragiles in Pairs & Fill the Gaps

Plates should always be packed vertically like records, never flat. Fill any empty voids in boxes with packing paper or soft towels to prevent shifting during transit on the 401 or DVP.

5. Label All Sides, Not Just the Top

When boxes are stacked inside the truck or stacked against walls in your new home, top labels become invisible. Write the room and contents on at least two sides of each box.
